Creating a new model
The first action taken in the Stratigraphic Modeling workflow is the creation of the stratigraphic model item, which will serve as a container for the information representing the zones and hierarchy of the model. Once created, the item representing the stratigraphic model is available in the JewelExplorer, and can be found grouped under the Stratigraphic Models item. Use the Create Model form (prepare > Stratigraphy) to create a new, empty stratigraphic model or set an existing stratigraphic model as active. When proceeding to the following forms, the model selected in this form will be active by default.
To create a new stratigraphic model
- Select Create new from the Model drop-down list.
- Enter a name for your stratigraphic model into the field underneath.
- Click OK to create the new stratigraphic model and proceed to the Generate Zones step. Alternatively, you can click Apply to create the new model and keep the Create Model form open for additional work, such as the creation of other models in cases where you are performing more than one interpretation. In either case, you will find your new model in the JewelExplorer under Stratigraphic Models.
Important
Only one stratigraphic model can be used to create a grid. Once the grid is created, a copy of this stratigraphic model is stored in the grid object. Since the structure of the grid is fixed, the structure of the stratigraphic model can not be edited; edits can only be made on a deeper stratigraphic level (for example by creating new children). If you want to change the structure, you will need to change the stratigraphic model and recreate the grid.
Choosing an existing stratigraphic model
- Select the model of interest from the Model drop-down list.
- Click OK to set the model as active and proceed to the Generate Zones step.
